I have been a solopreneur for more than a year. I learned a lot of things about business and life in my solopreneur journey. Sometimes I felt like If I knew this earlier I might get more faster growth than I have now. Because those things helped me now to get more clarity on the business. If we get more clarity about the things we will get faster growth. So I decided to share in this article, the 4 things I wish I’d known earlier in my solopreneur journey. Let’s get started
Importance of productivity system:
Having a productivity system means having a clutter-free mind while running a business. In my early days of business, I didn’t use any system to manage my business tasks and notes. I note everything randomly here and there. Then later time went on, things became hard to manage and process in business because I didn’t have a proper system to streamline everything.
So I created my own productivity system in the Notion app and Google Keep notes to manage my business tasks and content. My productivity system has mainly two components “Task Management” and “Knowledge Management”. My tasks management is in the Notion app and it contains subsections for tasks, content creation, and strategies all related to business. The knowledge management is in the Google Keep app and it contains my general and business-related knowledge capture and organizing. Both systems mainly have categories like development, marketing, production, general, content creation, website, etc.
After having a productivity system things are very easy and smooth to manage and nothing misses through the gap. My mind is free to generate more ideas and thoughts instead of remembering tasks and notes because everything is well organized in my productivity system. Every day before start work I review my system so my mind will capture and focus on what to do today.
Reduce time between idea to execution:
When we do business, we get many ideas daily but the main thing is are we executing or streamlining the idea? when we delay the execution of the new idea, It starts to decay from enthusiasm to interest in it. The execution is directly related to your business growth. Faster execution leads to trying more ideas quickly and sometimes the next idea based on the previous idea execution results.
Focus on the process, not on the results:
When we are doing something, we ultimately expect the results should be great. Focusing on the results sometimes makes you not put your full focus on the process. If we put more focus on the process then the results will be great. Because the process is the only thing we can control. Better the process better the results.
Power of productivity methods:
In my previous days, many times while doing work I got distracted and sometimes felt exhausted very quickly. Then I decided to use the “Pomodoro Technique” for my work sessions. Gradually my productivity improved than my previous days.
Here is how the Pomodoro Technique helped me to improve my productivity. As we take short breaks in between our work sessions it will keep us charged to do many works. The working session is only 25 minutes long so If I think of something to check other than work, I can easily convince myself to stay focused on work because it is just 25 minutes long. So my distraction faded away. Focusing on work for 25 minutes is much easier than focusing on work for hours. After implementing this method even though I do a lot of work in a day, I am not feeling exhausted and got more satisfaction that I am more productive.
